Thomas Chapman CEO of Equifax |
The CEO of Equifax, Thomas Chapman, gave a speech last month where he claimed that it was unconstitutional and un-American to force Equifax to allow US citizens to see the credit report file that Equifax keeps on them.
Here is the article.
So he wants to charge the US public to make sure that the info he keeps on them is accurate.
A "CRA" is a Credit Reporting Agency. In the US there are three: Experian (aka TRW), Equifax, and Trans-Union. As I mentioned in a previous post, starting in 2005, the CRA's have to provide you a free copy of your file every year. So, it is your un-American duty to demand that they do what the law requires and give you a copy of the information they have on you.
I've noticed that both the Commonwealth Club and Eqifax Corporate websites have removed their references to this speech he gave on 27-June-2005. The press-release webpage for Equifax has a dead link for this speech. They must have forgotten to remove this link. Oops!
The Commonwealth Club removed all references to his speech. However, Google had an archived version on their servers that mentions him as a keynote speaker at a speech about the future of the credit reporting industry. The whole speech seems to have dissappeared.
